Born in 1965 in Italy, Andrea Tofanelli graduated cum laude at the Lucca conservatory with highest full marks, specializing his classical studies with Armando Ghitalla and consolidated his jazz studies with O. Valdambrini and S. Fanni, trumpet soloists of the RAI Television Jazz Orchestra. In the Jazz field he performed and toured with artists like his mentor Maynard Ferguson, Randy Brecker, Eric Marienthal, Claudio Roditi, Peter Erskine, Kenny Wheeler, Tom Harrell, Paul Jeffrey, Dave Liebman, Carmen Bradford, Butch Miles, Frank Foster, Paul Jeffrey, Dave Liebman, Lee Konitz, Steve Swallow, just to name a few. He performed as soloist at the official “Maynard Ferguson Tribute” in St. Louis (2006) and in 2008 he received the Visa O-1 for Extraordinary Ability in the Arts from the USA Government. He performed in more than 100 Italian tv shows on National RAI Tv and commercial tv channels in these last 30 years, recording hundreds and hundreds of Italian movie soundtracks, TV commercials, pop albums (many of them awarded in Europe of Gold and Platinum Records) and videos for the most famous Italian Pop and Jazz artists, in the most elite recording studios in Italy and Europe, appearing also in the Italian movie “Le ragazze di San Frediano”. He performed in the most famous theaters and festivals of Italy, United States, Japan, Canada, Australia, Norway, England, Germany, Brazil, Luxemburg, Norway, Poland, Malta, Sweden, Finland, France, Russia, Liechtenstein, Austria, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium, Scotland, Poland, Romania, Greece, Spain, Croatia, Portugal, Serbia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Hungary, Egypt and Principality of Monaco, touring and performing also with artists like Luciano Pavarotti, Gino Vannelli, Paul Anka, George Michael, Joe Cocker, Tom Jones, Burt Bacharach Michael Bublè, Dee Dee Bridgewater, New York Voices, Tony Hadley, Randy Crawford, Matt Bianco, Kid Creole & The Coconuts, Gloria Gaynor, The Gibson Brothers, Samantha Fox, Imagination, Patrick Hernandez, Tony Hadley, Paul Young and Petula Clark. As international trumpet artist and Jazz/Classical music educator, he regularly performs and gives masterclasses all over the world. Tofanelli is both Professor of Classical Trumpet in Italy at the Vecchi-Tonelli Conservatory in Modena and Professor of Jazz Trumpet at the prestigious Fiesole School of Music in Florence. He has been member of the ITG Board of Directors 2014-2019 and ITG Counselor since 2020. He’s also artist/clinician of the WBA World & European Brass Association since 2018. He has been artistic director of the Dean Benedetti Jazz Festival from 2000 to 2010. Since 2023, Tofanelli joined the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences as voting member in the jury for the Grammy Awards. He is a Yamaha Artist and Clinician since 2003 and Warburton mouthpieces endorser.
