David W. Johnson is a licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music in London.  Before his recent retirement, he was Professor of Horn at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, Switzerland for nearly 20 years and held principal horn positions in the Boston Opera Orchestra, Niedersaechsisches Staatsorchester Hannover, Philharmonia Hungarica, Radio Symphony Orchestra of Basel and Bern Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Johnson also taught at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg, Germany and in the Musikhochschulen in Zurich and Bern.
As a soloist he won the Geneva International Horn Competition and the Swiss Prize in 1985 and with the American Horn Quartet, which he founded in 1982, he has won first prizes for chamber music in Hungary (1989), Belgium (1991) and Japan (1992) and recorded 8 CDs.
Mr. Johnson has served as a judge for many prestigious competitions, regularly conducts classes around the world and hosts the HORNCAMPS! summer horn workshop in Daytona Beach, Florida.
